# What is the Correct Shot Depth

## All Great Shooters Shoot Deep into the Basket.

All great shooters shoot the ball deep into the basket. Many would assume the optimal depth would be in the middle of the rim (9” deep), but the optimal shot depth is actually 11” past the front of the rim.  This is because the center of [the Guaranteed Scoring Zone ](https://www.noahbasketball.com/guaranteed-scoring-zone)is not the center of the rim, but where the swish and brad zone meet. Above is a video taken from one of our [Noah Basketball Shooting Clinics](https://www.noahbasketball.com/request-a-noah-shooting-clinic) where Noah Basketball CEO, John Carter, discusses this principle. Watch and learn more about the optimal shot depth.
